Professional Tax

Professional Tax (PT) is a state-level tax levied on income earned from employment, trade, profession, or calling. Every employer is required to obtain a Professional Tax Employer Registration Certificate (PTEC / PTRC) and deduct PT from employee salaries before remitting it to the state government.

Professional Tax is applicable in 20+ Indian states including Maharashtra, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana. The maximum annual tax is capped at ₹2,500 per employee.
